The IM Basketball Team Needs Your Support!

Tuesday, October 14, 2008 · 0 comments

The inter-faculty basketball tournament has been spurring up lots of excitement the past couple days, as the team representing IM has been regarded as one of the favorites even before entering the tourney.

The IM Basketball team currently features players from the upper cohorts; Chia Wei and Najib from Cohort 2, and Albert, Mike, Sky, Mohamed, Noh, and Jun representing Cohort 3.

Things got off to a slow start, with a loss to FBEPS I (48-43). The team used the loss to further discipline their game strategy and build a proper game plan.

Effort was no question, as there’s no doubt everyone put in 110% –especially with an amalgamation of anxiety and the desire to prove something substantial; that medical students DO in fact have a life and can school other people in sports, as well as a medical environment.

The second game helped to prove the latter, with a 63-28 victory over FBEPS II. The game was a showcase of great teamwork all around.

The stats of the game were so good they can't be listed on the internet. Either that or I don't have them readily available.

The IM basketball team is however suffering from a lack of support; as many players on the bench are trying their best to compensate for a lack of attendance from what should be, fellow classmates yelling and screaming in support for their beloved colleague-turned-athletes.

Come and join in on the fun and excitement! The IM Basketball team next plays against FASS on Friday, October 17 at 5PM.

We better see you there!

Judgement - The Essence of Leadership

Judgment is the key to true leadership. A leader's most important role is making good judgment calls in three domains: key people, strategy and crisis. Great leaders have a high percentage of good judgment calls; they are only good if the execution is successful.

The second most important role is to develop other leaders who can make good judgment calls. Leaders are said to have a good judgment when they repeatedly make judgment calls that turn out well. And these calls often turn out well because they have mastered a complex process that unfolds in several in several dimensions.

Why do some organisations consistently win in the marketplace, while others struggle from crisis to crisis? The answer is LEADERSHIP. Winning organisations have good leaders who know how to make smart decisions and implement them quickly and they develop others to be leaders as well.

03109Noel Tichy is a Professor of organisational behaviour and human resource management at the University of Michigan Business School and a worldwide consultant specialising in leadership and organisational transformation.

Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) in partnership with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation and Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam will be the first to organise this Guru Event and bring in Dr Tichy to present BRAND NEW MATERIAL on leadership based on his latest book 'Judgment: The Essence of Leadership'. Co-authored by fellow leadership sage, Warren Bennis, this discovers a major new concept in the study of leadership and will be addressed for the first time in Brunei.

This special Guru Event entitled «Judgement Calls: Developing Leaders to Compete in a Challenging Global Environment» by Noel Tichy will be held on Monday, 20th October 2008 at the Empire Hotel & Country Club Amphitheatre. The event is organised by UBD in partnership with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation and Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam and sponsored by the Empire Hotel & Country Club.

UBD-LOGO-small The Guru Event would benefit individuals who are involved in decision-making roles in their organisations such as Permanent Secretaries, Deputy Permanent Secretaries, Director Generals, Directors and Deputy Directors of Government Ministries and equally Executive Board members, Presidents, Chairmen, Vice Presidents, CEOs, Managing Directors, General Managers, Head of Departments, Marketing Directors, CIOs, COOs, CKOs, Human Resource Executives and Training Directors instrumental in developing the workforce; Managers being groomed to lead the organization and Academicians.

HireBrunei is the Newest Job Board in Town

Sunday, October 12, 2008 · 0 comments

Hey! I know that searching for jobs online can be really painful, but I found a site that actually make the process not suck.

Ok, I admit it. I was going to keep HireBrunei Job Board to myself. I’m a selfish person, and I didn’t want you to apply for the same jobs that I’m applying for, but they bribed me with $5 Easi Credit Transfer if I post about them in my blog. It is the easiest way for me to get $5 easi credit ever. Hey, you can join up too, but make sure you enter before October 18th.

Don’t worry, they’re really cool and won’t spam you. You’ll just get a daily e-mail telling you about a really cool company and what kind of jobs the company offers. If you ever get sick of it or hopefully find the job of your dreams, unsubscribing is really easy.

If you’re looking for a job for after you graduate college, or need to find a new job, I highly recommend you HireBrunei.

If you're an employer looking for a better way to find good candidates, why don't you give HireBrunei a try. They are giving FREE job posting at the moment.
